Nature + Travel Photography
About
Photography has been a love of mine since I took a camera on a sixth grade camping field trip to a local state park nearly three decades ago. I couldn't wait to get the printed pictures back in the mail.
Thousands of pictures, a handful of cameras, five continents, and many years later, I am still going strong. I often enter a "zone of pure being" when I am engaged in creating/capturing, maximizing and rendering my photographic images.
I most enjoy and focus on nature, landscapes, architecture and travel photographs using available ambient light. I "went digital" in 2005 with a DSLR camera and have never looked back. With the technology now offering detail and quality equivalent to medium and even large format film cameras, but with many more advantages, it reinvigorated my love of the medium at a time when it started waning.
The natural world helps keep me balance and refreshed, and I love spending time outdoors, walking, hiking or biking as much as possible to get around. I look for images from the macro and abstract levels through to full landscapes or street scapes that burst with mesmerizing and life-affirming colors, textures, shapes, and/or patterns.
I have often read in spiritual literature that light is pure love, or even God. My photographic journeys leave me feeling this is as accurate a way to portray light as any. Capturing and sharing the essence of light, in its various manifestations, feels to me like something of a divine undertaking.
I have studied photography at the International Center of Photography in New York and at the University of Pennsylvania, among other places. My "career" as a photographer has been interlaced with stints as a lawyer, entrepreneur, and award-winning marketer (still current), among other things. I live in the village of New Paltz, NY, in the beautiful Hudson Valley region, with my wife and daughter.
